Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, in Pinner, Middlesex. He was the eldest child of Stanley Dwight (1925-1991) and the only child of Sheila Eileen (née Harris; 1925-2017).

His maternal grandparents brought him up in a council home in Pinner. When the family relocated to a nearby semi-detached home in 1945, his parents got married.

He attended Pinner Wood Junior School, Reddiford School, and Pinner County Grammar School until he was 17 years old when he quit right before his A-Level exams to pursue a career in music.

John’s popularity with critics peaked in the 1970s when he put out a string of US and UK number-one albums, starting with Honky Château in 1972 and ending with Rock of the Westies (1975).
