The recent power outages, commonly known as ‘Dumsor’, have sparked a debate within the political landscape of Ghana. Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the government for its handling of the situation.
Dr Boamah questioned the justification for Ghanaians experiencing power outages when the previous Mahama administration had provided enough power generation plants, including the Ameri thermal plant. He described the government as ‘deceitful’ and ‘incompetent’ and accused them of not being truthful about the power situation in the country.
In a post on his Facebook page, Dr Boamah directly addressed Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) and Dr Bawumia, questioning whether the power shortage was a result of ‘Dumsor Power Diabetes’, where power is abundant but homes and businesses are still lacking electricity.
He further criticized the government for blaming transformers for the power outages, stating that the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) had confirmed that transformers were not the cause of the problem. Dr Boamah also raised concerns about the government’s decision to relocate the Ameri thermal plant to Kumasi and rename it.
Overall, Dr Boamah’s remarks highlight the growing frustration among Ghanaians regarding the current power situation and the government’s handling of the issue. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to these criticisms and address the concerns of the public.
