The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Professor Lydia Aziato, has urged young people, especially women and persons with disabilities, to overcome barriers and strive for success in their chosen fields.

Speaking at the Ghana Grows Youth Policy Dialogue at the Ho Technical University, Prof. Aziato shared her own experiences of overcoming challenges and encouraged the youth to believe in themselves, even when others doubt them.

The Ghana Grows Programme, a collaboration between the MasterCard Foundation and Springboard Road Show Foundation, aims to empower young people, particularly women, in agriculture, agribusiness, and technical and vocational fields.

The Youth Policy Dialogue provided a platform for young people to learn about policies affecting them and develop skills to engage with policymakers. It also showcased youth ambassadors in agribusiness, technical, and vocational fields.

Comfort Ocran, Executive Director of Springboard Road Show Foundation, urged participants to take action by identifying challenges in the agriculture and technical sectors, bridging the gap between education and employment, and advocating for policies that support youth empowerment.

The dialogue focused on women’s empowerment and access to justice, in line with Commitments 1 and 2 of Chapter 5 of the National Gender Policy. Legal activist Ms. Hilary Gbedemah and Dr. Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, Executive Director of the Ark Foundation, shared insights on engaging stakeholders and advancing women’s rights.

Dr. Dwamena-Aboagye emphasized the importance of collaboration and perseverance in the face of obstacles, encouraging the youth to seek opportunities to work together for success.

The Ghana Grows Programme aims to inspire and equip a new generation of Ghanaians to thrive in agribusiness and contribute to economic growth. The insights and recommendations from the Youth Policy Dialogue will be used to shape future youth engagement in Ghana.

Young people interested in exploring opportunities in agriculture, agribusiness, and technical fields can access assistance through the Ghana Grows Programme by dialing 718*50# or contacting the Ghana Grows Call Centre at 0308255775.
