Clyde McPhatter was born on November 15, 1932, in Durham, North Carolina, and died on June 13, 1972, in The Bronx, New York.

He was a rhythm & blues, soul, and rock and roll vocalist. McPhatter was a crucial figure in the development of doo-wop and R&B and was one of the most frequently imitated R&B singers of the 50s and early 60s.

McPhatter’s first solo success, Love Has Joined Us Together, was recorded in 1957 with Ruth Brown. A Lover’s Question, written by Brook Benton and Jimmy T. Williams, was his biggest solo hit, peaking at number six in 1958.

He also recorded Seven Days, Treasure of Love, and Just to Hold My Hand, which became instant hits in the R&B world.

Treasure of Love, released in 1956, topped the R&B charts when it was released. It peaked at number 16 on the US pop charts, sold over two million copies in the country, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

McPhatter had was survived by three brothers and three sisters but their details are not readily available currently.
