Former Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has set the record straight regarding rumors that he is eyeing the coaching position at Asante Kotoko to replace current coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, who is under pressure due to poor results.
Recent reports had suggested that Akonnor, who has previously managed Hearts of Oak and Ashgold, was interested in a return to the Porcupine Warriors.
However, the 50-year-old coach has vehemently denied these claims, stating that his words were taken out of context and he had never expressed any desire to take over the Kotoko coaching role.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, Akonnor expressed his frustration at the misinformation, revealing that he had contacted the person who conducted the interview and even they denied attributing such statements to him.
He blamed bloggers for distorting the story for sensationalism.
“I didn’t say I was interested in coaching the team so I later called the guy who granted the interview and he also denied it and said it was the bloggers who just twisted the story just to get attention,” Akonnor clarified.
The former Black Stars captain, who has previously coached Asante Kotoko from 2018 to 2019, reiterated that he has no intentions of taking over from Prosper Narteh Ogum and is focused on his current roles with Ashgold and Dreams FC.
