In a remarkable tale of survival, four children, including a mere 11-month-old baby, have been discovered alive in the heart of the Colombian jungle, more than two weeks after their plane crashed, claiming the lives of all the adults on board.

President Gustavo Petro shared the miraculous news, commending the exhaustive search efforts undertaken by the country’s military, firefighters, and civil aviation authority officials.

Trapped within the dense foliage, the ill-fated Cessna 206 met its tragic fate on May 1, claiming the lives of the pilot and two other adult passengers, whose bodies were discovered inside the wreckage.

However, against all odds, four children from Colombia’s Indigenous community managed to escape the plane’s grasp and embarked on an arduous journey to seek help.

The survivors, aged 13, 9, 4, and an infant, were found in the Caqueta province, where their resilience and determination led to their eventual rescue.

The search operation, involving both human and canine units, utilized the resources of Colombia’s army and air force, deploying planes, helicopters, and highly trained search dogs.

During the rescue effort, evidence of the children’s resourcefulness became apparent. Rescuers stumbled upon discarded fruit, revealing the young survivors’ reliance on nature’s offerings to sustain themselves.

Additionally, improvised shelters, ingeniously crafted from the abundant vegetation of the jungle, served as temporary havens for the resilient children.

President Petro expressed his joy and relief, stating in a tweet, “After arduous searching by our military, we have found alive the four children who went missing after a plane crash in Guaviare. A joy for the country.”
