Childishness will leave you in opposition forever – Afia Schwarzenegger slams NDC for commissioning uncompleted National Cathedral

Afia Schwarzenegger, a socialite from Ghana, has taken aim at certain members of the Minority Caucus of Parliament for their recent attempt to “commission” the incomplete National Cathedral project in order to make fun of the administration.

She claims that considering their powerful positions, the actions of the concerned MPs—North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ningo-Prampram MP Samuel Nartey George, and Odododiodioo MP Nii Lante Vanderpuye—are considered “childish” and should not be accepted.

She questioned if John Dramani Mahama, the previous president and current leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was able to finish all the initiatives he started, citing that as an excuse for their lack of maturity.

In response to a photo on her Instagram page of the NDC MPs commissioning the National Cathedral Project, she said,  “Childishness will leave you guys in opposition forever!!!!!! Tweaaaaa did fmr President Mahama complete all his projects?… Use that same energy to look for our Guinea fowl that you left in Burkina Faso while in power.

“There’s no campaign message better than “The Nkofem Are Back”, Do you think we forget your own abi, the trees??? clowns!!!! Opposition-a-thon(16 years in opposition). Mo ntena ho,na mo ny3 concert.”

Regarding certain NDC MPs’ “commissioning” of the National Cathedral

In order to “commission” the unfinished structure, the minority members of parliament disobeyed the security detail surrounding the National Cathedral site.

According to former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta at the 2021 budget reading, the event made a mockery of the government’s announcement to open the facility on March 6, 2024.

Under the leadership of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MPs marched to the location, pledging to have a press conference in front of the building even if they were prevented from entering the actual site.

After a contentious exchange that was recorded by the media, they ultimately prevailed.

A symbolic tape featuring a red, yellow, and green balloon arch was placed in position before Ablakwa read the formal announcement. The MP and his colleagues cut the tape to “open” the project.

The recording ends with George saying, “In the name of Akufo-Addo, Mahamudu Bawumia, and Ofori-Atta, we commission this expensive hole in the world.”

There was a small gathering of people who clapped and yelled slogans.

Ablakwa reviewed more than a dozen demands from the Minority, which included the Bank of Trustees’ dissolution, the cathedral secretariat’s closure, the recovery of some spent cash, and accountability for public monies utilized thus far for the project.
