A political scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, has emphasized that voters in the Central Region do not base their ballot decisions solely on a candidate’s regional affiliation.

According to Dr Asah-Asante, voters in the region consider various factors such as the economy, unemployment, corruption, and infrastructural development.

During an appearance on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, Dr Asah-Aante highlighted the discerning nature of Central Region voters, stating that they prioritize issues such as economic stability, infrastructural development, anti-corruption efforts, healthcare, education, and energy.

He noted that voters in the region also pay attention to specific regional and constituency concerns.

Dr Asah-Asante advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to showcase their vision and ability to lead the country effectively if elected. He stressed the importance of offering practical solutions to address the challenges facing the populace and ensuring that policy proposals resonate with the grassroots.

He further suggested that the NDC engage the public, particularly women, effectively and communicate their policies clearly to the grassroots. Dr Asah-Asante emphasized the need for honesty, humility, and a strong sense of purpose among NDC candidates as they campaign for the 2024 general elections.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang was recently unveiled as the running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama.

During her introduction at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) auditorium, Prof. Opoku Agyemang pledged to hold corrupt officials in the current government accountable if the NDC regains power.

She highlighted the importance of consensus building in democracy and called for a renewed effort to combat corruption and strengthen accountability mechanisms in government institutions. Prof. Opoku Agyemang also emphasized the need to protect national assets, natural resources, and the rights of all citizens.

As the NDC gears up for the upcoming elections, the focus remains on articulating clear policies, engaging with the electorate, and building a vision for a more inclusive and accountable government.
