A 36-year-old businessman has been remanded by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court on charges of stealing commodities worth GH¢36,100.00.

Abubakar Sadiq, also known as Usher, has denied forcing entry into a home in order to take things including a sound system, a TV, lace fabrics, ladies’ purses and shoes, cell phones, wristwatches, and perfumes, among other things.

On March 7, 2024, he will return to the Court chaired by Isaac Apeatu. Within 14 days of the next case management meeting, the prosecution was mandated by the court to file its disclosure and serve it to the accused.

A bench warrant has been issued in the meanwhile for the arrest of Eric Oduro, also known as Oduro, and Kofi Sadiq, also known as “Survival,” who are both believed to have received the stolen goods and are presently at large.

Police Chief Inspector Christian Amartey informed the court that the accused individuals and the complainant, Aisha Saeed, were residents of Pakyi No. 2.

He claimed that in September 2022, when the complainant traveled from Pakyi No. 2 to Accra, Sadiq and his cronies broke down her door and stole her possessions.

Before leaving into hiding, the prosecution said that they removed GH¢36,100 worth of assets, including a television, sound system, stabilizer, three sneakers, ten ladies’ handbags, 25 wax prints, a center table, a mattress, fragrances, wig oil, watches, and other items.

The complainant was notified by a witness that Sadiq and his cronies had taken the items, and she went back to Pakyi No. 2 to corroborate the information.

Chief Inspector Amartey said that after the complainant went to the police with a report, Sadiq was located at home but was able to elude capture.

Following a tip, Sadiq was apprehended on February 18, 2023, around 2000 hours. In his cautionary statement, he denied knowing about the theft and charged Kofi with robbing the complainant of their belongings.

Chief Inspector Amartey said that the complainant noticed her center table in Oduro’s shop at Pakyi No. 2 on her way home after Sadiq’s arrest. She recognized it as hers, and Oduro gave it back to her. She then took it to the police station.

Kofi, who purchased the complainant’s mattress from Sadiq, was detained, according to the prosecution, and he acknowledged having the item in his possession in his cautionary statement. The mattress was taken out and preserved as a display.
