The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has made a passionate plea to put an end to discussions surrounding the regional origins of the running mate for the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a recent interview on Yen Nsempa on Onua FM, Acheampong emphasized the need to move away from outdated regional biases in political discourse. He stated, “Who said the running mate is within the Ashanti Region?

A running mate is within Ghana and a running mate is within Dr. Bawumia’s right to choose for the NPP, we should stop that conversation of he’s from here, he’s from there. Let’s use the principle of Ghana, let’s respect the flag and what it stands for and do better.”

Acheampong stressed the importance of focusing on national unity and progress rather than regional affiliations when selecting political leaders. He highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s selection based on his competence and leadership qualities, not his ethnicity or region.

The Minister urged Ghanaians to prioritize meritocracy in leadership selection, stating, “Dr Bawumia was not selected because he is from Mamprusi.

He was chosen because of his competence and the next person to partner him is the one he chooses to select and that is the kind of conversation we should be having.”

Acheampong also addressed rumors about his own candidacy as a potential running mate, revealing that he has not been approached with such an offer. However, he expressed his full support for whoever Dr. Bawumia chooses as his running mate.

In conclusion, Acheampong underscored the need to choose leaders based on their abilities and dedication to national development rather than their regional backgrounds. He emphasized the unity of all Ghanaians, stating, “We are all one people, we are all Ghanaians.”
