Asante Kotoko and Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum on the verge of parting Ways

There are rumors circulating that Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most prominent football clubs, could be parting ways with their head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum.

The potential split is reportedly due to the team’s poor performance in the Ghana Premier League this season.

Currently ranked 11th in the standings with 33 points, the Porcupine Warriors have had a challenging season so far. Ogum has been under immense pressure in recent months, especially after the team managed to secure only one league victory in 2024.

To make matters worse, Asante Kotoko has suffered six defeats in their last seven games in the Ghanaian top-flight, earning just one point during this period. Frustrated fans even went as far as to disrupt proceedings at the club’s training ground on Tuesday, demanding the dismissal of the former WAFA boss.

Local media reports suggest that the Interim Management Committee of Kotoko has made the decision to sack Ogum if there is no improvement soon. The committee is already on the lookout for a new coach and has reached out to Bismark Kobi Mensah, a seasoned tactician who has previously worked with Karela United, Bechem United, and Great Olympics.

In the midst of these struggles, Asante Kotoko is gearing up to face log leaders Samartex in matchday 27 of the Ghanaian top-flight on Sunday. Meanwhile, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Life Patron of the club, has called for an emergency meeting to address the team’s recent struggles.

Otumfuo will convene a crucial meeting on Thursday, April 19, 2024, with the playing body and the Interim Management Committee to discuss the current state of the team and the way forward. Asante Kotoko fans will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of this meeting, hoping for some positive changes to turn their season around.
