Anthony Albanese has proved victorious against the incumbent Prime Minister, Scott Morrison.
He becomes the fourth Labor leader to be elected prime minister since the Second World War. He will be sworn in on May 23, 2022, alongside four of his senior frontbench colleagues.
Why did Anthony Albanese and Carmel Tebbutt separate?
After meeting in Young Labor during the late 1980s, Anthony Albanese married Carmel Tebbutt in 2000. They have a son named Nathan.
The couple separated almost a decade later in 2019. Albanese released a statement saying,
“I am deeply saddened that my relationship of over 30 years with Carmel Tebbutt has ended in separation. We will continue to share parenting responsibilities of our 18-year-old son Nathan, who has successfully completed his HSC and has developed into an outstanding young man who we are both proud of.”
There were no third parties involved in the separation.
Where is Carmel Tebbutt now?
Despite their separation, Tebbutt has been active in her ex-husband’s journey to becoming prime minister.
Though she has been retired from politics since 2013, she was the 15th Deputy Premier of New South Wales. Not only was she the first woman to hold the position, she also held the position from 2008 to 2011.
