The Awutu Breku District Court has handed down a sentence of eight months imprisonment to Emmanuel Agbeshie for assaulting a teacher by hitting their upper face and lips. Agbeshie, a 22-year-old apprentice, claimed that the teacher’s touch had caused his penis to disappear. The court found him guilty of assault, causing harm, publication of false news, and deceit of a public officer. Agbeshie, who pleaded guilty, was represented by Mr Francis Gasu, who requested mitigation.
In addition to the prison sentence, Agbeshie was fined GHC 2,400 for the assault charge, with a default sentence of four months imprisonment. He was also ordered to serve another four months imprisonment on the assault charge. For causing harm, he received a sentence of eight months imprisonment and was fined GHC 1,200 each for the charges of publication of false news and deceit of a public officer, with a default three-month imprisonment for each charge. All sentences are to run concurrently.
Furthermore, Agbeshie was directed to sign a 12-month bond for good behavior upon his release, as well as to pay the medical bills of the victim, Mr. Charles Bimpong Appiah, and provide compensation of GHC 4,800. The prosecution was headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police and Chief Inspector Bernice Wei Kpuusuu.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on April 14, 2024, when Agbeshie accused Appiah of making his penis disappear and proceeded to assault him with a stone. Police intervened and rescued Appiah, who was then taken to the hospital for treatment. Subsequent medical examinations confirmed that Agbeshie’s claims were false, as his penis was deemed normal and intact.
