A Governance Expert, Professor Baffuor Agyeman-Duah, has lambasted the government for its sluggish approach in addressing the ongoing power challenges in the country.
According to him, the government has not taken the issue seriously despite the frequency of power outages.
During an interview on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah expressed his disappointment, stating, “The government hasn’t been too active in seeking solutions to problems.” He emphasized the need for the government to expedite efforts to find lasting solutions to the power crisis.
In addition, Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a load-shedding timetable to help consumers plan their activities effectively. He believes that providing a schedule will enable consumers to organize their lives around the power outages.
On the other hand, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, acknowledged the frustration experienced by citizens due to the power outages. However, he assured the public that maintenance work being undertaken by the ECG is nearing completion, offering hope for an improved power supply.
Mr. Ahiagbah assured Ghanaians that the maintenance works will soon be finished, leading to a more reliable and uninterrupted power supply. He urged citizens to remain patient as the government works towards resolving the challenges.
In response to criticisms from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the power outages, Mr. Ahiagbah reminded the public of the severe power crisis experienced under the previous administration. He emphasized that the current government is committed to addressing the challenges and ensuring a stable power supply for all.
