Every parent wants the best for their children, and Chad and Margaret Amato were no exception.
They tried everything to help their son, Grant, who was struggling with finding his way in life. They spent thousands of dollars on different career changes and even sent him to a rehabilitation center for internet and porn addiction.
Grant, born and raised in Chuluota, Florida, was a bright student whose life took a dark turn after failing to succeed in nursing school and getting fired from his job for drug-related suspicions.
He turned to online gaming and pornography, creating a fake identity to interact with a webcam model named Silviya “Silvie” Ventsislavova. Grant ended up stealing over $200,000 from his family to fund his obsession with Silvie.
After a failed intervention and numerous attempts to help Grant, his father, Chad, gave him a list of rules to follow if he wanted to continue living at home.
Despite the ultimatum, Grant’s family was found murdered in their home, with Grant being the prime suspect. After a trial, Grant was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Grant’s story sheds light on the dangers of online addiction and the extreme lengths some people can go to in the pursuit of their obsessions.
His case has been turned into a three-part true crime docuseries called Ctrl+Alt+Desire, which explores the twisted reality that ultimately led to his family’s tragic demise.
