With only a few hours till Ghana’s 67th Independence Day Anniversary comes to a close, the lively atmosphere in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region, has created anticipation for an unforgettable occasion.

Many locals consider the event as a chance to highlight the economical possibilities of one of Ghana’s peaceful urban districts, the people’s rich cultural diversity, and their heritage.

Given the Region’s pivotal role in securing Ghana’s independence in 1957, the stakes are, in fact, very high.

The majority of the “Big Six” figures who guided the nation toward independence are from this region.

Known for its tropical woods, gushing waterfalls, tourist attractions, and stunning scenery, Koforidua was established in 1875.

The nation’s red, yellow, and green flags have been flown brightly in the town’s busy streets ahead of the anniversary celebration, and they are visible at every visible corner.

The Koforidua Youth Resource Center, the location of the anniversary celebration, was decked out with national flags, iconic images of freedom heroes, and other historical scenes from the fight for independence when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) arrived there on Tuesday.

Additionally working hard to complete preparations was a team from Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a rubbish collection and management company.

The company’s regional coordinator, Faustina Shardey, claims that the authorities fumigated the entire Center to assist with cleanup.

The National Security Council was also implementing security measures, including as stationing police officers at strategic locations, to guarantee public safety.

A variety of fire tenders were brought on board especially for the program by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), which was also hard at work.

To improve their income, some vendors were seen selling mementos and other event-related items.

“It is a dream come true that we are hosting the national event of our independence anniversary, because the Region played no mean a role in advancing the nation’s cause for self-rule,” Baba Musa Mohammed, a Muslim cleric, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview.

He praised the government for organizing the independence celebration according to a rotating schedule and expressed optimism that the Region would live up to expectations.

A large number of educators, students, and parents came to the center to experience the approaching event. They were upbeat about the Region hosting the event in an interview.
