If it wins the 2024 election, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its pledge to make sure Ghanaians prosper through its suggested 24-hour economy.

At the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region, the NDC convened its National Policy Dialogue on February 22 and 23 to discuss its policy priorities for the December elections.

Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the NDC’s Head of Legal Affairs, acknowledged the struggles Ghanaians face and emphasized that the discussion’s outcome will influence their policy recommendations for reducing poverty.

“As you know, the People’s Manifesto—the NDC’s 2020 manifesto—is already in place. As you may remember, the 24-hour economy policy proposal was one of the policy initiatives included in the 2020 manifesto for the 2020 elections. In essence, what we are doing is that numerous interventions have been made since 2020. To solidify these policy programs and proposals before Ghanaians in 2020 for the 2024 elections, we therefore want to have a situation where we can involve academics, researchers, and experts. That is precisely what we are doing. This will enable us to produce a document that will be feasible and that the majority of Ghanaians will accept.

We acknowledge that the issues Ghanaians face are not trivial; rather, they are very important concerns. The advice they receive after this is not meant for general public consumption. It is only intended for internal party use. to influence our future course of action.”

“Our goal is to fill Ghanaians’ pockets to the brim. “The 24-hour policy proposal is critical; once people have money, they can do many other things with the support of the state,” he told JoyNews.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party’s policy think tank, Social Democracy Lab, stated that the dialogue would prioritize policy proposals to transform and rebuild Ghana and would centre on the 24-hour economy.

Participants in the Policy dialogue included several individuals from the party structures, the Minority Caucus of Parliament, and the Social Democratic LAB thematic groups, which include Human Development, Finance and Economy, and Governance.
