Mateus Facio, who was partying at a Rio de Janeiro beach, reportedly felt something hit him, but he shrugged it off when his head stopped bleeding, according to the New York Post. Without realizing the seriousness of his circumstances, Mr. Facio carried on having fun with pals for the next four days.
The 21-year-old remarked, “Little did I know that all this would happen,” according to The Post. “I thought it was a stone, a bad joke, that someone picked up and threw a rock,” he explained.
“I could see what the sounds might be if there was one. However, I didn’t hear anything, and everything was perfectly normal,” the Brazilian student of medicine continued.
The 21-year-old didn’t know there was a bullet embedded in his brain for the four days he spent having fun at beach parties and hanging out with pals. He didn’t seek medical assistance until he got home and started having strange motions in his arms and fingers.
When Mr. Facio described the incident, he talked about how at first he was hesitant to pick items up because of an odd feeling in his arm. When he visited the hospital for examinations four days later, they found the 9mm bullet in his brain.
The doctor said that convulsions and discomfort had resulted from the bullet’s placement close to the area governing movement of the right arm. The man was lucky, the doctor said, to have escaped more serious injuries including paralysis.
After that, Mr. Facio had a two-hour procedure to remove the bullet, during which he was in danger of meningitis, bleeding, brain fluid leakage, and even death. Fortunately, medical professionals were able to remove the bullet safely and without incident.
They even mailed the bullet to the Cabo Frio police, who are investigating at this time. They claim that day there were no reports of gunshots in the vicinity.
