| Ghanaian songwriter wins American songwriting award |
Chicago-born Ghanaian Songwriter, Adrew ‘Dilla’ Bonsu has been honoured for writing a portion of “Oui”, an R&B track performed by American singer and rapper, Jeremih.
The 2015 released banger has been streamed over 150million times on YouTube, featured in Apple TV commercial, topped many charts including the Canadian Hot 100 chart, US Billboard Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Rhythmic and Mainstream Top 40 charts.

Following the success of the song, the songwriters, which include Ghanaian Adrew ‘Dilla’ Bonsu, have been honoured at the 2017 ASCAP Pop Music Awards.
In an exclusive interview with Ghanafuo.com, Bonsu described Jeremih as one of his best friends and further disclosed that they grew up in the same city.
“Jeremih is one of my good friends,” Bonsu said. “We grew up in the same city, started working on music together years ago and put out ‘Late Nights’ mixtape. Everything else is history,” he divulged.
Bonsu also disclosed that he started writing music since grade school adding that: “Music has been instilled in me.”
To Adrew Bonsu, the award means every dream is possible to achieve. “The award means a lot to me in many ways but most importantly, it will show the young kids out there that dreams are possible to achieve,” he stated.
“Just keep pushing and never give up,” Andrew ‘Dilla’ Bonsu concluded.
He’s not the only African to achieve this feat. In February, Nigerian Afro-pop star, Wizkid was also awarded for writing a portion of Drake’s “One Dance”.
