In the past few weeks, there has
been an intensified demand for accountability concerning the GH¢ 2 million that
was released for the music sector by the government in 2012. The President of
the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGHA) Bice ‘Obour’ Osei Kuffour has been the
primary subject of attacks over the said disbursement to the music industry.
Artistes, Bloggers, and other stakeholders of the music industry have
frequently questioned how the GH¢ 2 million was utilized for the betterment of
the industry. It appears the latest to comment on this issue is rapper, Yaa
Pono. According to Yaa Pono, there is nothing visible to show that the amount
released for the music sector has yielded any fruits. He claims a guitar has
not even been purchased with it. He made this expression when he tweeted the
following;

and attacks, Obour recently revealed how the GH¢ 2 million has been spent. “We
received one million first and [with] this one million, part [of it]
commissioned the study into the music sector. Out of the entire 2 million about
800,000 was spent on the study. The study was done by KPMG….a comprehensive
study on the music sector. About another GH¢ 800,000 was spent on the first
Ghana music week festival…..which we accounted for and it was out there in the
public” He said.
