An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail of GH₵50,000.00 each with one surety to 13 individuals accused of possessing a plant substance suspected to be narcotic drugs without lawful authority. The accused, including a trader, farmer, driver, chef, and unemployed individuals, all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The accused individuals are said to have unlawfully possessed narcotic plants, with one individual found in possession of 118 wraps of suspected narcotic drugs for trafficking. The case, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, has been adjourned to May 8, 2024.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Maxwell Oppong, stated that the accused individuals were arrested by personnel of the Ghana Military Police stationed at Burma Camp in Accra. The accused persons were found in La Palm-Wine junction peddling and using narcotic substances, leading to their arrest.
During a swoop at the aforementioned location, the accused individuals were caught with plant substances suspected to be narcotics. The prosecution mentioned ongoing efforts to test the substances and continue the investigation into the case.
The accused persons are currently on bail as the legal process unfolds in this narcotics-related case. The court has emphasized the severity of drug-related offenses and the need for thorough investigations to prevent the illegal distribution of narcotics in the community.
