The Accra College of Education and Zoomlion Foundation have partnered to introduce Agenda Zero Waste in an attempt to rally support for addressing the nation’s sanitation issues.

The program aims to engage teacher candidates to serve as national advocates for environmental education.

The Writers Bureau Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Robert Kwaku Adjei, launched the initiative in Accra on February 9, 2024. Speaking on behalf of Zoomlion’s Managing Director, he emphasized that Zoomlion is cultivating a community of enthusiastic individuals who will soon be actors in the sanitation space through this initiative.

He continued by saying that the program marks a critical turning point in the nation’s response to waste management and climate change.

The “Achieving Zero Waste: The Role of the Teacher Trainee in Combating Climate Change” event served as the launchpad for the Green Generation Champions, a tertiary institution environmental group.

According to Prof. Samuel A. Atintono, Principal of Accra College of Education, sustainable waste management is an essential part of global efforts to reduce climate change and protect the environment for coming generations.

He contends that it is the responsibility of the populace to change their consumption habits and embrace environmentally friendly waste management techniques, such as recycling rubbish.

Thomas Narh Korley, the National Coordinator of Zoomlion Foundation, noted that mobilizing adolescents and children to alter the national narrative on sanitation is one of Zoomlion’s primary areas of resource and commitment.

Despite the impressive outcomes of Zoomlion’s public education campaigns, he clarified, citizens still needed to be taught the need to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste rather than dispose of it in landfills, which poses risks to their health and the environment.

He went on to say that all postsecondary institutions, especially teacher training colleges, will adopt Agenda Zero Waste.

There was a lot of trash on campus, according to Richmond Adjei, President of the Student Representative Council (SRC), who justified the program.
He went on to say that the SRC would not stop there and would keep pushing for additional funding to forward the goal.

He urged other higher education establishments to take inspiration from this move and implement courses that will encourage students to advocate for proper hygiene.

Zoomlion is offering materials for the Agenda Zero Waste Project implementation as well as training for the Green Generation Champions.
