Zahara was born as one of the seven children of Mlamli Mkutukana and Nokhaya Mkutukana her parents. Out of her six siblings, only three are identified as Nomonde Mkutukana, Mbangedwa Mkutukana, and Mbuyiseli Mkutukana.

Nomonde Mkutukana was her older sister and she was killed in a freak accident when she leaped into the path of a minibus taxi just outside East London.
Nomonde was 45 years old when she died in an East London hospital hours after the accident near Mooiplaas. She was on her way home from work.
Mbuyiseli Mkutukana was the younger brother of Zahara. He died at the age of 25. He was murdered alongside a man named Thanduxolo Zumani, who was also 35.
“The brother and a man he was with were found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on the banks of a river in Next Camp, outside of East London on Sunday,” said spokesman Lt-Col Mtati Tana.
Tana said only their cell phones were missing.
“The motive for the killings has not been established yet, we are still investigating,” he said. No arrests were made.
There are no details about her other siblings.
