Ghanaian actress and movie producer, Yvonne Nelson, has taken to Twitter to express her frustration over the recent power outages in the country, commonly known as ‘dumsor’.
In a tweet on April 22, she called on Think Tank, IMANI Ghana, to partner with her for a second protest against the Akufo-Addo government.
Yvonne Nelson was the lead organiser of a massive protest against the John Mahama government back in 2015, which brought together many celebrities to speak out against the ‘dumsor’ crisis at that time.
In her tweet, Yvonne Nelson mentioned that IMANI Ghana had supported her previous protest in 2015 and she hoped for the same support in organising a demonstration against the current government.
The recent power outages have left many Ghanaians frustrated, with calls for a load-shedding timetable despite the government’s denial that ‘dumsor’ is back. Energy experts have also criticised the government for its poor management of the situation.
Special aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, also joined the conversation, criticising the government for failing to take responsibility for the power crisis in the country.
Commenting on the energy challenges, Bawah Mogtari said, “These power outages must be condemned, especially when those responsible refuse to accept responsibility for their own actions that have led to the consequences we are experiencing.”
She went on to highlight the hardships, unemployment, corruption, and other issues plaguing the country, and concluded by stating that the current administration will go down as the worst in the history of Ghana.
Yvonne Nelson and others are now gearing up for a possible protest to demand better from the government in addressing the ‘dumsor’ crisis.
