The conveners of the #DumsorMustStop protest have made some changes to their plans for the protest against power cuts in Ghana.

Originally scheduled for May 25 at the Revolution Square near the Jubilee House, the protest will now take place on June 8.

Selorm Dzramado, Yvonne Nelson, and Henry Akoto, the organizers of the protest, have announced that the new meeting point will be in front of the University of Ghana, with protesters walking to the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout. A podium will be set up at the roundabout for speeches before the protesters disperse. The new time for the vigil will be at 2 pm instead of the initial 8 am until 10 pm schedule.

However, the Ghana Police Service is seeking a court order to prevent the protest from taking place at the Revolution Square. In a suit filed on May 20, the Police are requesting an injunction to stop the protest against Dumsor.

The court is expected to rule on the Police’s request on Friday, May 24, at 9 am. This development comes after the organizers served notice to the police about their planned vigil on May 25. Following a meeting with the Accra Regional Police Command on May 15, the organizers were instructed to change the location of the protest due to security concerns at the Jubilee House.

The Police had classified the Jubilee House as a security zone following a security threat assessment conducted by the Police Command and the Intelligence Unit at the National Police Headquarters. Despite the challenges, the organizers remain determined to hold the protest and demand an end to the power cuts affecting the country.
