Former Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo has spoken out against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Akufo-Addo, accusing them of overseeing a rise in corruption within the country. Domelevo, who was forcibly retired by President Akufo-Addo, highlighted the widespread suffering and financial hardship faced by citizens, blaming the government for the current situation.
During an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show, Domelevo criticized the lavish lifestyles of government officials and the mismanagement of funds for projects that have not even begun. He referenced the payment of millions of dollars to a South African company for a sky train project that never materialized, describing it as evidence of corruption within the government.
The former Auditor General emphasized that corruption has escalated to an alarming level under the current administration, causing frustration among the public and government employees. He pointed out that corruption seems to have become a competition between successive governments, each trying to outdo the other in dubious practices.
Domelevo called for immediate action to address the issue of corruption, urging the government to prosecute corrupt officials rather than just identifying where the evidence lies. He stressed that it is crucial to hold accountable those involved in corrupt activities to ensure accountability and transparency in governance.
The outspoken critic of government corruption expressed concern about the sustainability of the current state of affairs and called for urgent measures to be taken to combat the pervasive corruption in Ghana. Domelevo’s comments shed light on the challenges facing the country and the need for effective measures to tackle corruption and promote good governance.
