The king of Gonjaland and President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has given his blessings to Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in his quest to become the next President of Ghana.

During a visit by Dr. Bawumia and some party officials as part of his nationwide campaign tour, the King expressed his support for the Vice President, describing him as a true son of Gonjaland. The King highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s contributions to the development of the Gonja Kingdom and praised him for his role in the creation of the Savannah Region.

The Vice President’s campaign tour, which kicked off on April 29, has taken him to various regions, including the Eastern, Western, Western North, Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions. Dr. Bawumia began a five-day tour of the five northern regions starting from the North East Region on May 13.

In his visit to the Savannah Region on May 15, Dr. Bawumia was warmly received by a large crowd comprising market women, teachers, nurses, artisans, and children. The Vice President paid a courtesy call on the overlord of Gonjaland and the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, where he was assured of the King’s support and blessings in the upcoming elections.

Yagbonwura Soale I emphasized the need for a peaceful and respectful electoral campaign, urging political parties to avoid insults and provocations. He also advised the youth to refrain from actions that could incite violence.

Accompanied by top party officials, including Minister Samuel A. Jinapor and Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Dr. Bawumia toured all seven constituencies of the Region, engaging with various groups of people. The campaign tour is set to continue in the remaining northern regions as the Vice President seeks to garner support for his presidential bid.
