According to reports, Barcelona’s manager Xavi wants to reunite with Lionel Messi in 2023 and has asked president Joan Laporta to bring the Argentine back from Paris Saint-Germain.
When his contract with Barca expired last summer, Messi left the club, which at the time was paralyzed by its financial situation.
The 35-year-old was paid for by PSG, and at the end of the previous year, he won his seventh Ballon d’Or. Messi’s debut campaign in the French capital, however, was underwhelming.
Only 11 goals and 15 assists were recorded by the football legend in all competitions. Despite Messi’s lack of goals, PSG easily defeated Lille to reclaim the Ligue 1 championship.
However, there have been speculations that a Messi return to Barcelona in 2023 may be in the pipeline.
Former teammate and current Barca manager Xavi has given club president Laporta instructions to attempt to entice Messi back to the Nou Camp.
Messi would benefit the team greatly, according to Xavi, both financially and tactically as many people think Messi still has a long career ahead of him.
