Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona has been dubbed impossible right now by Xavi in response to president Joan Laporta’s hint at a comeback.
The 35-year-old Messi was released by the Spanish powerhouses last summer as a result of their mounting debt of more than £1 billion. He committed to a two-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain, but his first season in France saw him score just six goals in Ligue 1.
Supporters are speculating about Messi’s possible return to Barcelona due to his troubling PSG performance. Xavi played with the Argentina captain at the Camp Nou for many years prior to his departure in the summer of 2015, so he is well aware of how talented he could be.
In spite of this, Xavi isn’t considering acquiring Messi this summer. Prior to their upcoming friendly matchup against Serie A team Juventus, Barcelona’s manager told reporters in Dallas on Monday night: (He has a contract and it’s impossible right now).
Messi is the greatest football player in history and the world. The time is not right to discuss Messi’s relationship with Barcelona, as President Laporta has already stated.
Laporta told the press that Messi was everything. He has been perhaps the best and most productive player for Barca. He only reminds me of Johan Cruyff, in my opinion. But it had to occur at some point. Because of what we inherited, we were forced to choose.
