Diego Costa has officially signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers on a free transfer.

Bruno Lage finally found the center forward he was looking for when Sasa Kalajdzic joined from Stuttgart in the final weeks of the summer transfer season.

However, the West Midlands team had to decide whether to pursue a free agent after the Austrian international ruptured his ACL against Southampton on his debut.

Kalajdzic’s long-term injury was made public on the same day that news of Wolves’ interest in signing Costa, a player who had a productive three-year career with Chelsea from 2014 to 2017.

The 33-year-old has been without a team since leaving Atletico Mineiro in January, endangering his prospects of getting a work visa.

Wolves’ appeal was granted before any medical examinations were conducted, despite the fact that they did not automatically reach the necessary 15 points.

Although the necessary documentation was finished on Thursday, certification of the transfer was postponed by several days due to the demise of Queen Elizabeth II.

The former Spain international has, however, now been publicly confirmed by Wolves to have signed a one-year contract and moved to Molineux.
