Man United star in trouble for comments after defeat to Atletico Madrid

Manchester United and Argentine defender Lizandro Martinez has found himself at the receiving end of massive criticism for comments made after his side’s defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last night.

Manchester United were beaten at the Wanda Metropolitano by hosts Atletico Madrid courtesy  goals from Barrios and Ademola Lookman, with the goals coming in the 1st and 79th minutes respectively.

United went a man down after defender Leny Yoro was issued a straight red card for a last man challenge on opposition striker Jonathan David. Last nights defeat makes it 3 defeats across all competitions, winning just two and drawing four times.

With head coach Micheal Carrick under pressure to quickly find a fix and turn things around, Martinez’s outburst after the game suggests a bigger problem off the pitch.

Speaking to Amazon after the match, the Man United defender had this to say

“We did a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well. Atletico have an amazing team and they deserve to win today.

“I expect more. 100%. I expect more from our technical director. I have to be honest, as players we have to do more but it is also important when you make a strong squad to be ready for this kind of night.”

“Last season we did everything, we created the base to create an amazing team. It is annoying, disappointing coming here and I am not seeing my team trying to get an amazing result here.”

“[Michael Carrick] does his best. Every season is different. You can’t stay with what you did last season. The teams knows how you play, they know every detail, if you don’t change next season is a big problem. You can’t keep changing, changing, changing the manager. What about other areas? I can’t say more.

“Tonight it is easy to say the coach, easy to say the players but also we have to see other areas.”

According to Jason Wilcox, the defender is set to face disciplinary action from the club as well as a substantial fine for the comments he made post game. Man United legend Wayne Rooney and Jammie Caragher have criticized the player heavily for his comments while admitting that although the concerns may be genuine, there was no need for the player to call out the board publicly after such an abysmal display from the team last night.

Some team mates have also expressed their frustration on social media in the form of emojis and comments on other posts.
