President Akufo-Addo has reiterated his authority in the allocation of development projects in Ghana, specifically in the roads sector. He made it clear that no road construction can take place in the country without his approval, underscoring his crucial role in decision-making regarding road infrastructure.

Speaking to New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Ejisu on April 28, President Akufo-Addo addressed the issue of road construction in response to Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an Independent Candidate in the upcoming Ejisu by-election. He assured the supporters of his ultimate authority in road construction matters throughout the country.

During the final rally for the NPP candidate ahead of the by-election, which was necessitated by the passing of the Ejisu Member of Parliament, John Kumah, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that independent candidates do not have the power to initiate road construction projects in Ghana.

He questioned the track record of former MP Kwabena Aduomi, who is contesting as an independent candidate, asking, “Since he was removed, which road has he constructed?” President Akufo-Addo boldly declared, “there is no road that can be constructed in Ghana without my permission.”

Highlighting the importance of maintaining the NPP’s slight majority in Parliament for the government’s agenda in the remaining months, President Akufo-Addo stressed the need to secure a smoother process for government business by retaining the party’s majority in Parliament.

The Ejisu by-election, scheduled for April 30, 2024, was called following the passing of Dr. John Kumah, the late deputy finance minister, on March 7, 2024. While the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opted not to participate in the by-election, focusing instead on the upcoming national election.
