
On July 31, 1991, William Gholston, a defensive end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, was born. Prior to being chosen by the Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, he played college football for Michigan State.
Gholston was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and attended Mumford High School there. He received the USA Today High School All-American honor in 2008.
For his senior year, he transferred to Southeastern High School. He made a career-high 115 tackles as a senior, 44 of which resulted in losses (7 sacks), 10 fumbles were forced, and two punts were blocked.
On January 3, 2013, Gholston announced that he would forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft instead. On April 27, 2013, William Gholston was taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 126th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Aqib Talib was acquired by the New England Patriots through a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in which the pick used to select Gholston was also acquired. The $2,560,544 four-year contract that Gholston signed on May 14, 2013, includes a $400,544 signing bonus.
