Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki was a Kenyan politician who served as president of Kenya for an eleven-year period between 2002 and 2013.

He became the third president in the history of Kenya after succeeding President Daniel Moi, who had got the better of him in previous elections.

He was born in 1931 to a father named Kibaki Gĩthĩnji and a mother called Teresia Wanjik. His other name, Emilio Stanley, was given to him by Italian missionaries after his baptism.

He graduated from Makerere University in Kampala with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He married Lucy Muthoni in 1961 and the couple had four children together.

Will there be a State funeral for Mwai Kibaki?

Mwai Kibaki died in the early hours of Friday 22nd April, 2022. The announcement was made by current Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was the successor to Mwai Kibaki.

It is likely that a state burial would be organized for Mwai Kibaki given his status as a former president. However, details of the arrangement are yet to be made public.
