The NFL Disciplinary Officer Sue L. Robinson’s ruling on Deshaun Watson’s suspension could come early next week.
The parties involved hoped that a ruling would come by the start of training camp on Wednesday. As no promises were made by Robinson, she will take her time in making the right decision and explaining it in writing as this is the first case since the NFL and NFL Players Association revised their collective bargaining agreement in 2020.
Robinson, who presided over a three-day hearing June 27-30 in Delaware attended by Watson, his lawyers, the NFL an,d NFLPA, requested post-hearing briefs that were due July 12th. From that point, the tentative timeframe for a decision seemed to be the first week of August, but it was always entirely up to Robinson.
Watson’s camp remains optimistic that he’ll play at some point this season. The NFL has argued for an indefinite suspension with a chance to apply for reinstatement after the season. The Browns are as much in the dark as anyone and are focusing on the work in camp.
Watson has yet to address the media in camp, and might not do so until the suspension is determined.
