Widow claims assets of late husband from in-laws

A mother of four who has lost her spouse is prepared to defend her late husband’s assets.

Her husband passed away six years ago, leaving behind a little five-bedroom home in Wassa-Dunkwa, the Western North Region, as well as a three-acre cocoa field.

However, the widow alleges that her in-laws have mistreated her and the kids and gained possession of all the assets years after the man’s death.

“My husband has loved me and never threatened me of divorce. I supported him in enlarging the cocoa and also building the house to a roofing level from proceeds of my gold nugget which I got through galamsey. Now his elder brother wants to take everything from us yet he does not support me financially to cater for the four children,” Madam Suzzy explained to Nhyira Fm’s Obra show.

The family caretaker has been given the responsibility of managing the cocoa plantation, but in the last six years, no improvements have been made to the building as weeds have taken over the project.

However, the deceased’s older brother refuted the woman’s assertions. He related how their father had acquired the farmland and how the family had given his late brother the funds to run the farm, emphasizing that their brother had built the house and provided for the widow and her kids with their portion of the earnings.

“She is an ungrateful woman, my sister is currently taking care of her child and I sponsored the secondary education of the second child at Aduman Secondary School yet she thinks we have done nothing. I have never said we are taking the building but rather I wanted to roof it and share it among all the three parties involved but she vehemently opposed that is why there has been no progress on the building,” the 54-year-old man narrated.

Through Mama Efe’s mediation, all sides came to an arrangement for peace to reign, with the caretaker sharing the building’s roof among them.
