Captain Charlie “Griff” Griffin of the popular show Wicked Tuna and his beloved dog Leila tragically passed away in a boating accident on the Outer Banks. The Coast Guard confirmed the news after their bodies were found near Oregon Inlet on Monday.

Griffin and his dog were reported missing on Sunday night, and a search ensued until their bodies were discovered the following day.

The Reels of Fortune Facebook page shared the heartbreaking news, asking for thoughts and prayers for Griffin’s family and friends. Griffin was a familiar face on Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks, appearing on Seasons 2-5 as he and his crew embarked on their fishing adventures in the waters off North Carolina.

The U.S. Coast Guard provided a statement regarding the incident, revealing that Griffin’s vessel had capsized near Oregon Inlet.

The search for a second occupant of the vessel was still ongoing, with multiple agencies including the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the US Coast Guard involved in the investigation.

The Outer Banks community mourns the loss of Captain Griffin and his faithful companion Leila, as fans of Wicked Tuna remember his contributions to the show. May they both rest in peace.
