Despite supporting her candidacy to a prior Senate-confirmed position last year, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina indicated Thursday that he will not vote for President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Graham, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has been indicating that he will vote against Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination and has asked her tough questions throughout her confirmation hearings.
In a statement on the Senate floor, Graham declared, “I will oppose her and vote no.”
“My decision is based on her record of judicial activism, flawed sentencing methodology regarding child pornography cases, and a belief that Judge Jackson will not be deterred by the plain meaning of the law when it comes to liberal causes,” the senator said in announcing his opposition to the nomination on Tuesday.
Graham went on to say that he admires Jackson “to be a person of great integrity who is well-liked by her coworkers and who has worked hard to obtain her current position.
Her record, on the other hand, is replete with inconsistencies in judicial philosophy and a proclivity to reach conclusions regardless of what the law requires or what common sense would suggest.”
