Iggy Pop (James Newell Osterberg Jr., born April 21, 1947) is an American singer, musician, radio announcer, songwriter, and actor.

He was the vocalist and lyricist for the proto-punk band The Stooges, which began in 1967 and has disbanded and reformed numerous times since.

The Stooges were infamous for their confrontational concerts, which frequently included acts of self-mutilation by Pop. Throughout his career, he had a long creative relationship and friendship with David Bowie. He was one of the first artists to stage-dive and popularized the sport.

More Pop of the Stooges had his first Top 40 hit in 1990 with “Candy,” a duet with B-52 singer Kate Pierson. “Lust for Life,” “The Passenger,” and “Real Wild Child (Wild One”) are among his solo hits. In 2010, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
