After developing a romance with Ellen DeGeneres, Anne Heche said she was “blacklisted” by Hollywood.
The actress reflected on her prior romance with the talk show host in a recent interview with Page Six, discussing how she was made to feel like “patient zero in cancel culture.”
Why was Anne Heche canceled?
“This wasn’t a long-term love affair,” recalled Heche, who dated DeGeneres from 1997 to 2000.
“This was a moment in my life when I was given the glory of being able to stand up for what I believe in and have since I was a kid.”
When she chose DeGeneres, 63, to be her date to the 1997 “Volcano” premiere, Heche, 52, made news.
Heche told us her impulsive act to invite DeGeneres was “about living in loving-kindness.”
At the time, the two faced criticism for their same-sex relationship.
Heche claimed that every subsequent film and television production was her “favorite” because it allowed her to sustain her family.
The actress has two children: son Atlas, 12, and son Homer, 19, with her former “Men in Trees” co-star Coleman Laffoon.
