Savannah Chrisley’s parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, became a household name thanks to their reality show Chrisley Knows Best.
However, their fame took a dark turn when they were indicted for federal tax evasion charges in August 2019. The couple pleaded not guilty to all charges and maintained their innocence, despite being accused of defrauding banks out of over $36 million in fraudulent loans.
In a shocking turn of events, Todd and Julie were found guilty of tax fraud in June 2022. Todd was convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and tax fraud, while Julie was convicted of the same charges along with wire fraud and obstruction of justice.
U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross sentenced Todd to 12 years in prison and Julie to seven years, with both of them also receiving 16 months of probation. They began serving their sentences in January 2023.
Savannah Chrisley, their daughter, spoke out about her parents’ conviction at the Republican National Convention on July 16, 2024, calling it a “political persecution.” She claimed that her family had been targeted due to their public profile and conservative beliefs.
Despite their initial long sentences, Todd and Julie’s terms were reduced in September 2023 to ten and five years respectively. Julie is scheduled for release in August 2028, and Todd is set to be released in November 2032.
Their attorney, Jay Surgent, explained that the couple had been model inmates and were eligible for reductions under the First Step Act. Savannah and the rest of the Chrisley family continue to stand by Todd and Julie as they navigate this challenging time.
