Roderick David Stewart, the youngest of Robert Joseph Stewart’s five children (26 December 1904–1990) and Elsie Rebecca Gilbart’s five children, was born on January 10, 1945, at 507 Archway Road in Highgate, North London (14 December 1905–1996).

While Elsie was English and had grown up in Upper Holloway in North London, his father was Scottish and had been a master builder in Leith, Edinburgh.

Married in 1928, the pair lived in Scotland where they had two sons and two daughters before relocating to Highgate.

Why is Rod Stewart’s voice raspy?

It is because he wears it, just like the main singer of the Box Tops, whose name escapes me. It’s incredibly challenging to achieve perfect pitch when using this effect. When the voice unintentionally sounds breathy, raspy, or lower in pitch, it is said to have a hoarse voice, also referred to as dysphonia or hoarseness.

It’s feasible to utilize a smokey voice to give bad characters a more menacing and seductive air. Rod Stewart made sure to guard his voice after receiving a cancer diagnosis.
