Ser Jaime Lannister is a fictional character in American author George R. R. Martin’s fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire and its television adaption Game of Thrones, where he is portrayed by Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Beginning with A Storm of Swords (2000), Jaime becomes a key point of view character.
Jaime is a knight of the Kingsguard and one of the strongest swordsmen in the seven kingdoms, as introduced in A Game of Thrones (1996). He is a member of House Lannister, one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in Westeros. He is Tywin Lannister’s oldest son and Cersei’s twin brother, with whom he has a long-standing incestuous relationship and brother of Tyron
Why does Jaime Lannister hate the name Kingslayer?
People use it as an insult against him since he “betrayed” his pledge of guarding his king as a member of the Kingsguard. Jaime believed it was the right thing to do, and objectively, it saved innocent lives, yet his actions were viewed as dishonorable and cowardly. So he dislikes the term since it amounts to name-calling.
Why is the Kingslayer hated?
Despite sounding like a badass title, it is essentially an insult to Jaime Lannister’s honor. Jaime Lannister signed an oath to become a Kingsguard, promising to protect the king by all means, even if it meant giving up his life (even if the king was insane).
