Lilibet, the daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has Tyler Perry as her godfather.
In the second episode of the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” the Hollywood tycoon revealed that he turned down the opportunity to visit the UK for Lilibet’s christening.
Inferring that the fuss around the royal family was what turned Perry, 53, off, he stated that he didn’t want to “do all of that in the church with them and sort all of that out.”
“Maybe we can do a private ceremony here and let that be that,” he stated. “And if you have to do it there, then that’s OK.”
After the pair first arrived in the US in 2020, Perry famously allowed them to remain in his $18 million LA house; this incident has since been dubbed “Megxit.”
Additionally, it is stated in “Harry & Meghan” that the couple had never even met Perry before this. After reading unfavorable articles about Meghan’s father Thomas Markle, the filmmaker merely got in touch with her.
“I’m not a royal watcher, I don’t really pay attention to a lot of stuff,” he said. “But I saw something about her father [posing for the paparazzi]. I found it to be hurtful if he were my father.
And I couldn’t even imagine this woman finding the man that she loved, the man of her dreams, and him being a prince, and then walking into all of that madness and needing the security of family and then having your father do some horrible things.”
