The full name of Tyler Perry is Tyler Perry. He was born in September 13, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Perry, Willie and Maxine are his parents.

Tyler has a brother named Emmitt Perry Jr. and a sister named Tamara Eileen Perry. Tyler experienced three separate family members sexually abusing him as a child. He used booze and drugs as a coping mechanism for the trauma.

At the age of 16, he shot himself in the head in an attempt to end his life, but he lived. Tyler made the decision to make a change after viewing an Oprah Winfrey program about forgiveness. He began producing plays he had written at nearby churches.

Why did Tyler Perry change his first name?

Tyler believed that Amir, a Muslim name, more truly reflected his spiritual views than his birth name. The new name, according to Perry, sounded more “exotic” and would make him more distinctive in Hollywood. The move occurred just as Perry’s career was taking off; he had recently released the popular film “Precious,” and he was getting ready to create his own television network.

Although some fans complained about the modification, the majority backed Perry’s choice.

Tyler Perry changed his name because he didn’t think his birth name, Emmitt Perry Jr., accurately reflected who he was as a person. He sought a name that would be more memorable and simple to say. Perry picked Tyler as his middle name and Perry as his mother’s maiden name.
