Why did the High Sparrow give away Queen Margaery during her atonement in ‘Game of Thrones’?

Dormer spoke with Entertainment Weekly on her character’s downfall and why Margaery, who had done well in the Game of Thrones, was defeated.

“The reason it all goes t–s up is because Margaery wasn’t in control of the battle against Cersei”. “She had to hand the reins over to the High Sparrow and Cersei outplays him. By the end, Margaery is a victim of the High Sparrow’s incompetence. He underestimates Cersei and that’s something Margaery Tyrell would never do.”

The Faith Militant imprisoned both Margaery and Cersei and made them answer to the High Sparrow. Cersei walked the walk of shame, whereas Margaery avoided it by joining the Faith Militant. She never totally surrendered to them, as seen by her delivering her grandmother, Lady Olenna, a piece of paper with their symbol, but she was astute enough to position herself with those in authority.

They all went up in green flames as a result of the High Sparrow’s doubts about Cersei and refusal to listen to Margaery’s pleas to let them depart.

Why was Queen Margaery not atoned?

Because she brought Tommen into the fold, Margery did not complete the Walk of Atonement. Margery no longer needed to atone once Tommen agreed to work with the High Sparrow and give the Faith Militant even more authority in King’s Landing. She atoned for her faults by converting her husband to Christianity.
