Salman Rushdie is a very controversial figure in the literary world. He has penned a lot of books that have caused ripples worldwide.
The author who got married to his third wife, Padma Lakshmi recently got stabbed whiles giving a speech in New York.
Rushdie and the Top Chef host got married in 2004. According to Padma Lakshmi, when she first started speaking with Salman Rushdie, she was “hooked.”
As an Indian who also lived in the West, she stated, “For me, it was amazing because I finally had somebody who understood me.”
The marriage unfortunately didn’t last long. Lakshmi pursued her passion for cooking and the novelist didn’t like that very much.
He resented the fact that he was no longer the center of attention in his life.
Secondly, Lakshmi lived with severe endometriosis that left her bedridden in pain and made it extremely difficult to have sex.
Rushdie did not appreciate her pain at all. Instead of sympathizing with his wife, he labeled her a “bad investment”.
This insensitive statement did not sit well with Lakshmi so she ended up divorcing him in 2007.
Lakshmi opened up about the reason her marriage failed years later saying, “endometriosis was definitely a major reason that my marriage failed and I don’t think either of us understood it at the time.”
“I think that’s also because I hid it to a certain degree, not intentionally but you know, it’s weird to talk about your period all the time. It’s like the least sexy thing in the world to do,” the Top Chef show host added.
