Australian singer-songwriter, poet, lyricist, author, screenwriter, composer, and occasional actor Nicholas Edward Cave AO was born on September 22, 1957.

In general, emotional intensity, a wide range of inspirations, and lyrical obsessions with death, religion, love, and violence are characteristics of Nick Cave’s music.

He is most known for his baritone voice and for leading the rock group Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Prior to fronting the Birthday Party, one of Melbourne’s premier post-punk bands, in the late 1970s, Cave studied painting in Melbourne after being born and raised in a rural area of Victoria.

In 1980, they moved to London. Disillusioned by life there, they developed a darker and more difficult sound that contributed to the development of gothic rock, earning the title of “the most violent live band in the world.”

For his confrontational performances, the shock of black hair, and gaunt, weak demeanor, Cave became well-known. The band split up soon after moving to Berlin in 1982, and the Bad Seeds, widely regarded as one of rock’s “most redoubtable, durable” outfits, were established by Nick Cave the following year.

While Cave’s obsession with concepts of good versus evil from the Old Testament culminated in what has been called his signature song, “The Mercy Seat,” (1988), and his debut book And the Ass Saw the Angel, much of their early material is set in a fictional version of the American Deep South, drawing on spirituals and Delta blues (1989).

Why did PJ Harvey dump Nick Cave?

The artist wrote on his Red Hand Files website that a fellow artist had dumped him because of his use of drugs and his infidelity.

According to Nick Cave, their relationship ended because they were both “extremely self-absorbed” at the time PJ Harvey dumped him. He also remembers the exact minute that happened.
