Mike Tyson got his face tattoo in 2003, a week before his fight with Clifford Etienne, also a former American boxer who is currently serving a jail term.
Originally, he told the tattoo artist he wanted a bunch of hearts on his face.
The tattoo artist disagreed and gave him other options to choose from which included tribal art.
His former trainer, Jeff Fenech claimed Mike got the tattoo because he did not want to fight. Mike once admitted that he was at one of his lowest points in life when he had that tattoo.

He said in his documentary that the tattoo represents his warrior status.

It is also similar to that of the Maori tribe in New Zealand, which they wear to scare people in battle.

Does Tyson regret the face tattoo?

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, he said that he has no regrets whatsoever after getting the tattoo.

When he was asked, he answered “No, A lot of stuff happened out of this tattoo, a lot of good stuff. Other young athletes come to me and said, It’s because of you, they call it Mike Tyson.”
