With 53 yeas and 47 nays, Ketanji Jackson was affirmed.
Senators Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska all voted for her across party lines.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, a Republican, stated on Monday that she will vote to approve Ketanji Brown Jackson’s historic nomination to the Supreme Court, providing the judge with a big bipartisan boost.
Murkowski, who previously supported Jackson’s confirmation to her current seat on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, stated her decision during a procedural Senate vote to move Jackson’s candidacy after a tie vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Why did Lisa Murkowski vote Yes for Ketanji Brown Jackson?
Murkowski joined Republican Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah in expressing support for Jackson.
Collins expressed her support last week, while Romney, like Murkowski, did so on Monday evening.
Given that every Republican on the Judiciary Committee opposed Jackson’s nomination and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly encouraged his caucus to vote against the historic judicial nominee, the display of support is remarkable.
